PostSubject: Economy down?   Thu Oct 31, 2013 12:22 pm

So, I've been looking on these forums for awhile and I'm getting the feeling that the economy used to a lot more robust than it is now. Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that a lot of people are selling, and no one is buying. Whats most concerning is that don't even know how to get TE and Pots for free, or if that's even possible.

Give it to me straight, is this economy broken?

You hardly see stuff selling here cause they're at retail price. I mostly go to fantasitrade.com for my cheap deals Smile

It too be expected as more and more options get added into the game.

Right now, the need for units are mainly for colo, arena, and guild battles. So certain speed and types of units are desired over others. Those will usually hold their value very well.

But as for the rest, you get so many that fill the same role, so prices will go down.

Well, here's what happened.

Previously there were only enough 6 star units to fill out the needs for a few players, and the rest of us were begging for 4 and 5 star scraps.

Now, the top players have teams of powerful 7 stars, and they don't need 6 stars, and there's a lot of six stars because the old ones never really went away.

the game's balanced around a lot of people coming into the game, but new players aren't coming in fast enough and the ones that are coming in aren't falling for mobage's business practice.

LF = Looking For = other terms used when people want to buy that unit.

Some people are not using the word WTB or buying or B> instead they use other terms like LF.

About the economy, as many 7* released, many people are saving TE to buy cheaper one of it. However, it is really hard to earn TE because the people nowadays want to trade instead of buying pure. For example, you want to sell Vlad for 60 te and some people replied to you "can I trade my Alvida for Vlad" instead of spending 60 te.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how people are looking at this 'market'....as in...stock market? If so, you are looking at it TOTALLY wrong.

I think using this analogy would be better....Fanta market is basically the automobile/car market.

When the car is brand new, people will pay a higher price for that shiny new car, regardless of how it looks and performs. A new car is always going to worth more. However, as the new car becomes old, people are not going to pay as much them any more, because there are newer, shinier, cars there. So slowly, the rich is buying the newer shinier cars, while the middle class can afford the 'second-hand' cars that the rich once had.

Of course, there are exceptions to this, like your collectors editions, and limited editions cars that makes them more valuable, and slowly, these will turn into classics, which will fetch a good price later on.

Now replace car with card, and you have the fanta market

I think the market is kinda crappy because TE is such a hard currency to come by. You see people asking for 1k+ TE for most 7* units and I would be curious to know how many 7*'s actually get sold for pure and not some sort of 7*+ mix. Compound that with the fact that 6* supply now far outstrips demand. Only the 6*'s with specialised uses (Aksana, Charles, Gluck) have a high turnover rate. Goodluck selling stuff like Everleaf or Cosmos when every new event introduces some sort of new and superior unit in large amounts. 300 headstart 6*'s and 300 rank reward 6*'s every event is ALOT of new 6*'s being introduced into the market.

The economy is definitely down!
Returning Fantasica player here, and let me just say:
The prices for 5*s are ridiculously low, and even 6*s, compared to their prices several months ago.
It's incredible what a few months can do to the economy of a game Shocked

Yeah I came back to that same thing. I still remember when Joachim was 200te lol.

But I don't understand why people think it's "down" nessasarily...

Yes things are cheaper, and TE value is higher than ever, but there are still a bunch of trades going on, and still a LOT of things you can do to get small amounts of TE (It is being rewarded for events now, and trading the godesses you get rewarded also gets some TE)

I would only consider the economy down if no one were trading or selling cards, or if we could no longer purchase TE from the shop. We can still do both of those things so I think we're good.

If there is no shop, I will be happy for it because the free player can won rank 7* if there is no TE/ pots to add.

^Free players can already win rank 7*s, it just takes a lot longer to prepare compared to spenders and you have to know the event.

Totally agree.
Its actually a lot more friendly towards newer players with them being able to access 6* much more early. I remember when I started a few months back, getting a 6* within a month was considered 'quick'. Now many get one within weeks if they know what they are doing.

Given the nature of our currency the economy is not... broken so to speak. A better explanation is that the economy is simply in a constant state of deflation. The whole economy is simply well shrinking. There are a lot of factors you can point to but really the best thing to note is that the further we go the less TE and Pots will be available.

Many people have already realized this and will scramble for pure above all others. The very nature has made auctions rampant and mix trades less and less accepted. [ uptrading with 5*s is almost virtually impossible ]

You can ask many of the older players who are able to regale tales of 1000 TE 6*s and 200TE 5*s but even in my 4 months of play the crunch is noticeable.

The game will slowly cannibalize all the remaining TE and Pots until there is nothing left basically. Thats the basic structure of what we work with here.

We've reached that point already. We've gotten to the point where it is more cost effective to buy pure TE from the store than it is to buy packs. And so that's what many players do, thus adding TE to the market.

Um whatever happened to actually trading cards?

Kinda sad to see discussions like this happening in a supposed TCG game.

People still trade cards. It's not really easy to understand until you actually have a card that other players really want.

When that happens, all that card-for-card stuff you thought you would be into suddenly goes out of the window lol.

Personally, if I really like a card, I wont trade it. I assume that's the case for most people. When the time comes and I no longer like it for whatever reason, I'm willing to trade it, but the best case scenario is still to get TE. Why? because with it I'm assured I can get a card I want.

If I trade for a card, I not have two things to worry about:
1. What's the cards market price, and will it fluctuate
2. If I try to trade it, will the other player want that card.

That second part is the killer, because it's so subjective. People tend to let the value of a card vary on a bunch of different opinions they have at that moment.
Does the card look good
Is it useful overall
Would it be useful to them
Can it fill a role
etc.

Perfect example is Philieas. Right now her value is really high because she has a low DC (compared to other 6*s), an arena skill (Important to most and something not all 6*s have) a fast speed (compared to most 6*s) and low supply (not many who have her want to trade her.)

And because of all this, If I owned her right now I could trade her for 250 TE or another card.

Let's look at a few scenarios:

A) I trade her for 250te and sit on it for 3 months. In three months I still have 250te. TE has traditionally only risen in price every since the personal version was released. It also has a dual function. It can be used to trade for a 6* you want, or play for one during an event.

B) I decide to keep her for 3 months. In those three months, a few things will happen that will change her price. Firstly, she will have a lot higher supply. She is pullabe so eventually everyone who wants her will have her, and more copies will still be pulled/traded. Second, newer 6*s will be released, with better stats/skills. This is the way of power creep, in which new releases bring more powerful units to keep the game balanced and competition fun. Third, there will be more units with Nerve Strike, and more units with arena skills in general. Fourth, another facet of power creep, the general DC of released 6*s will drop, making Phileas's DC less of a big deal.
All of this will lower her value.

C) I trade her for a classic 6*/Event unit I need ATM. See scenario B for results after 3 months.

D) I trade her for a LE 6*. For the most part, LE 6*s have a more elastic value. It holds for a longer period of time, and for the most part, will begin to rise slowly as time goes on.

The obvious BEST choice in terms of value is A, which is why most trades are for TE. D is a viable choice if you can manage to get a 6* you like and want to keep for a long period of time. The other two options are rarely ever as good as A or D.

I also think of this because the price of TE can increase as well if the event needs a lot of TE like Colo.

Sometimes people are offering TE for Pots in a better ratio.

Example 100 TE for 150 pots, and then 150 pots for 180 TE and so on.

I agree on letter A but it is really hard to find people who are offering for pure nowadays. Sad

the reason why the value of pots/te go up is because more units are being injected into our game than pots/te are. it also doesn't help that they are consumed in most events to get those units in the first place.

imo, the value of pots should be more than te.

the only event where te is viable is colo. it's probably the only event where you can rank in top 50 using only te. gifting event is a stretch as it isn't very efficient and spenders will have an advantage. you won't break into top 100 but anything under that is probably fair game.

pots can be used to rank in top 50 for training events and training towers. it can be used in guild arena but you are not going to go that far with the pot limitation.

the only reason why pots were less valuable than te was because there used to be 2 events where you could use te to rank in (colo and tower, but ss probably decided to remove tower events because they weren't making enough money) and only 1 event where you could use pots (training which used to be on the pay2win side; it was made easier for free players since mandragora march).
