PostSubject: What else do you play? The Fantasica Alternatives (or Compliments or Supplements)   Sun Nov 02, 2014 3:55 pm

So I've noticed some discussion on the following issues:
1. Games played in between Fantasica event cooldown timers or during Fantasica events one does not wish to participate in
2. Games that are being played by Fantasica retirees (i.e. alternatives)
3. How Fantasica occupies a unique space by using game sprites that compliment card art

With that said, what other games do you play?  Please describe it, describe why you like it, describe why you don't like it, and describe how it fits in with your Fantasica gaming (if at all). =)

FWIW, I started Terra Battle, because I like the art and music.  I also enjoy the grid strategy.  I play the game in between playing Fantasica, because I still like seeing my dancing sprites.  However, I'm slowing transition to a point in my life where I will definitely be retiring from Fantasica within the next year (which is a combination of real life circumstances and losing my patience with the decisions being made for Fantasica).  A game with a high cooldown time, like Terra Battle, will thus suit my preferences during the next phase of my life.  ^^

I'm playing Million Arthur whenever Fanta's events don't interest me, or when I'm on cooldown. I've played it since launch, it has some fantastic card art but the events are pretty repetitive by now. Every event is like a training event with minor variations. It's also not very difficult to get good cards as a free player, the problem is rather that you get too many of them and there are no real challenges worth pursuing. If you just like to collect cards it should be heaven, though, but I don't understand how they are making any money off it.

I recently started playing Ayakashi which is nowhere near as pretty as MA or Fanta but it has a sense of progression, I'm doing crap in events and it makes me want to play more so I can gain power.

I've played World of Mystic Wiz which was a cross-breed of Trivial Pursuit and a CCG. It was actually quite fun, it's very satisfying (and educational) to answer the questions right. My problem with it, iirc, was that it was too time-consuming and progression was slow, you had to grind a lot after a certain point.

Spirit Stones was another game I played for a while. I didn't really get into it, it's a mix of CCG and Candy Crush so the battles are kind a fun but idk, I lost interest eventually.

Played Devil Maker Tokyo for a while but uninstalled it, I think I got bored, plus it was leaking memory and ran really sluggish on my old phone. Never re-installed it on my new one.

None of them have card trading or the social aspects (player walls) that Fanta has, and I miss that a lot. You feel isolated in other games after you've played Fanta for a long time.

I can fully support that.

I tried several other games also some that have nice Arts. But when you are used to have direct in the beginning other people available to chat discuss and trade as fanta does all other games i tried. Lack that.

You feel isolated. I can play a solo game then.

Thats what Fanta makes so sucessfull the social aspect. You can Chat and are seen in the leader board when you rank.

Lord of the Rings Legends (the NEW one, released in Sept on iOS) by Kabam. Only has a global chat at the moment. Has arena (pvp) ranking.

Star Wars Commander (similar to Clash type games) - has a guild you can message in.

Underworld Empire -- takes a while to get into, art style is not Japanese or cute [also not porno, so that's a nice change] requires patience, but my empire mates are great. Global chat, Empire/guild chat, and players have walls.

Used to play, and I hear it is still good, Dragon Bane Elite. Global and guild chats, personal and guild leaderboard, guild events.

None have trading Sad

Trying a few other ones and will let you know. Keep posting other nice games here please!

Work on your spelling, just kidding.

Yes, Fantasica has excelled in the social aspect, not just in in-game chats but there's also a chatango chat in fantasitrade.com and the chatbox in the unofficial Fantasica forums had a lot of hype as well when Fantasica was still a new game back then.

Other games such as Brave Frontier unfortunately don't really have the social aspect, I'm in a LINE chat in Brave Frontier and almost all of the members all consist of retired Fantasica players. The same thing goes for the Million Arthur chat that I'm in as well. All of the chats I'm in are all retired Fantasica players.

Million Arthur has a good social network system, with players sending like notifications when an Arousal Faerie (a.k.a bosses) appears, the chatango group for Million Arthur isn't as active, in fact, completely dead. I see messages that are more than one day apart There are LINE groups for Arousal notifications but that's not enough, just like Brave Frontier. (I'm actually considering to quit Million Arthur, because I'm afraid it may go the same way as Fantasica in the future)

Brave Frontier doesn't have really much regarding the socialisation aspect, unless someone else from another game introduced you to Brave Frontier. Most of the time, you'll be allies with randoms and not in the usual chats with them. A few of them or probably most of them will be your real life friends, depending how many people around you play Brave Frontier (because there are still other games that are taking the world by storm). Players only get together mainly OUTSIDE of the game system, unlike Fantasica, which starts from inside of the game system, which makes communication much more effective than most other games.

World of Mystic Wiz also has a chat function and I believe it's quite successful as well, I have random allies messaging me and stuff like that. (I played Mystic Wiz before and I may come back because of that to be honest) It's similar to Brave Frontier, with evolution and books for EXP, pots for money etc etc. , but with a unique battle system.

Other mobile games that I'm looking forward to are...

Soccer Spirits. Despite a few bad reviews about this game, I see more current players encouraging me to play Soccer Spirits, even more than Million Arthur.

Rise of Mana OMFG, THE MANA SERIES?!?!?!?! Yes, Rise of Mana, it's currently only available in Japan right now, I'm really looking forward to it's release in global or SEA. It also has a collaboration with Brave Frontier (as well as a Tales collaboration with Brave Frontier, another new game for the Tales series I believe)

Kai-Ri-Sei Million Arthur It's apparently a sequel of Million Arthur, but the battle system and graphics look... wow! It's definitely more interactive than the current Million Arthur right now.

Summoner Wars Summoner Wars is also another game that is quite popular like Brave Frontier, the pictures in Google Play are not as attractive but the UI in-game is just... *mind-blown*, I heard the rates for summoning good units are not good, but the game isn't afraid to give very good compensations unlike the rest of the games I've seen. It's very free-user friendly according to my Singaporean friends.

I first tried out Puzzle and Dragons when they made the gifting EU trade locked a while back. Got some units but it is hard for new comers to form a good team to defeat hard bosses. I put that on pause for the time being.

Second was Terra Battle. Almost like Puzzle and Dragons with the moveable grid to do dmg but you move units instead of elements. Its fairly new so the first event was Bahamut emergence and I got that unit. There is a story to it sort of in which you go through chapters and such like Fanta Quests but at the end of each chapter you get a Stamina refill and the card draw currency for the game. Going to wait how they will do events to see if is to my liking.

Last is Soccer Spirits which a friend told me about. Now this one is a bit different. You have a team of 11 not including manager and scouts or something I haven't really researched yet. Each unit has 4 different stats + talents + skills + socketable gem things. So there is quite a bit of strategy which I like, some RNG stuff like crits and blocks. There is a lot of stuff to do at the beginning and i just started. The game for international servers (non-Korean) are only 3ish weeks old. This is my main game I am playing when Fanta gets ugh.

Was thinking of playing Brave Frontier, I should DL it just to see how combat and things go.

Brave Frontier is a nice candidat - the european version of the game has a very-stable community team and is gonna recieve a new patch today - one players have been waiting forever to arrive.

I've also tried SW: Galactic Defense, mostly due to the Game Mash event that is going on in DeNA. At the moment it is a solid tower defense with a few twists, including movable units that you can move to assist in certain chokepoints of the current path. A tip, if you're wandering about trying it - do not buy the 10k credit units, save for the 40k ones, because you'll most likely get a repeat of your starter unit (repeat draws increase your special units' level, like an ambrosia would).

Another game i play while Fanta is in maintenance is Plants VS Zombies 2. I loved playing the first, and the second is also gorgeous.

And there's this arcade space ship game i play mostly for the "touhou-clone experience". Only when i'm really bored and want a change of game genre.

So I just installed Super Battle Tactics since I think that's what the game mash thing will be about. I started a "club" (guild) and I think it can only hold 4 players but please feel free to join. The name is "Loveable Scoundrels" and the password is "nils". The game itself seems like a kinda fun time-waster that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Vaati, I was having the same issue. The field isn't designated a password field, so my phone automatically capitalizes the first letter. You can't see it because it obscures the password. Look for that when you try.

Brave Frontier is where I went and have remained - happily so. The game has made countless events available, has upgraded lower tier units into higher forms, given away TONS of useful in-game materials, and is much more rewarding to play overall.

I wish I had never played/spent in Fanta and had only played BF. I would have known better.

Also, the Brave Frontier from almost 1 year ago pales in comparison to the BF of today. So much diversity, so much to do, and so many ways to enjoy the game.

Mobage - you're dead to me now.

Games to occupy me during Fantasica cooldowns... Smash Bros 3DS, WoW.

Games to occupy me during boring event... Smash Bros 3DS, WoW.

Games that have occupied my life, Smash Bros 3DS, WoW.

There may be a pattern.

Other games i've been playing as a totally free player~

Archeage ^^ - pc mmo

Puzzle and Dragons - orb matching game, this game take 95% of my mobile gaming time, took a while to get a team together and leveled (about 6 months), but now I can take out almost every descend without stones. They are quite generous imo about giving away the cash shop currency so I've accumulated a great monster box. Also they have some great colabs like Evangelion, DC universe and hopefully DBZ which released in jp, unknown if us will get it.

Brave Frontier - really just spent the first 3 months or so of this game logging in daily and logging back out, then played every stam for 2 weeks and got zel, darv and lilith all 6*'d and sbb'd and now... lol dont have the team size to have more than one 6* so im just loggin in again for dailies and supers until the next event. let me know if anyone wants an add. Its fun but not super time consuming, the grind your ass off events are few and spread out and it wont run on my phone so im limited to playing at home after the chillins are all in bed.

Dro Who Legacy- orb matching game, much like PaD but no cool down restrictions and very, very friendly to free players. Again doesnt play on my old broken ass phone like fanta or pad so my play time is limited, although like brave frontier its fun but not time demanding so its not like i'd play it as much as fanta anyway.

I don't play it myself, but several allies do, and highly recommend it:
Age of Ishtaria
- This is a game from Fantasica developers, Silicon studio.
- Main gameplay is dungeon-like quest which you do with 5 of your units. Also, raid bosses and pvp.
Gameplay video:
- Great anime art, 1* units look batter than our 7*. You can check it HERE
- Unit's enhancing and evolution.
- Kawai japaneese voiceover!
- Most important: UNIT TRADING IS PROMISED IN THE NEAR FUTURE (game is only 2 months old, mind you).
- Social features: not sure about it, but it has a Follow (aka allies) system.

Downsides: data hungry, so make sure you have enough space on your device and good connection.

If they'll implement trading system, it will be a perfect substitute for fanta, and im defenitely going to try it.

Playing the game Age of Istaria a few days now. Messaging presently is limited to your union. (guild, team, allies...choose how you call it lol) Game is very free player friendly, crowns (mobacoins) are given as rewards during quests and events. Yeah, as Aikendoe mentioned, awesome art!

Played summoner wars for a bit:
Has global chat,  (well, sorta.  Divided into several "groups", but you can change at will) where there's typically plenty of chatting, and people asking to be friended to do secret dungeons (where you can pick up pieces to summon monsters)

Of course, polygon versions of units.

"Cash" currency is frequently given as rewards for daily quests, drops in battles, log in rewards, etc.  However as one person said, the odds of good units seems extremely low.  (best I ever got was 3*, which is the same you can occasionally get from quest completion.  However you can theoretically upgrade any unit to 6*, given enough time/other units.)

Didn't really hold my attention long.

Edit:  Giving Ishtaria a try.  Edit: I've already gotten the reward from 3 invites, so only use my invite code if/when other people get their 3. My invite code is: 1robx6

age of ishataria is really cool (by the little that I've played so far)

the only downside is that people with older phones that do not have a lot of space (like mine) have issues connecting. My game constantly keeps closing and crashing and have so far not even been able to finish the tutorial as of yet.
Other than that the artwork is great, the voice acting is cute and it does require a bit more strategy then fanta has to offer.

Well, I can finish the tutorial, but as soon as I try to do a raid it closes out on me.

AoI works fine on my Nexus7, but often crushes on my phone, which have only 512 mb or ram and 4 gb of storage.
I think game was not tested on a wide range of devices, because it was released recently.
Anyway, if you have issues I suggest you to report bug: Menu->Other->Support. They have a bug report form build in game so it wont take a lot time and maybe your problem will be resolved.

I would love to play granblue fantasy. It has nice art, multiple card types to collect (chars, summons, weapons) and can be launched from chrome too. But unfortunately its only available in japanese with some menu buttons translated and therefore hard to play properly during events etc.
